ISP Bonding as it is known, is the ability to combine multiple Internet connections, usually of same type and speed, as if they were a single connection. This is a complex operation and there are many pitfalls involved. Protocols such as MLPPP and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) are complex to setup and bring their own problems.
Together with the UBM Load Balancer, Xrio can provide ISP's and businesses with the ability to consume a high-bandwidth yet cost-effective alternative to expensive Leased Lines or SDSL.
The technology involves an ISP installing a high capacity UBM Load Balancer in their Point of Presence together with a smaller unit at the customes officesr. The two units are then configured appropriately to route packet data down each of the physical links. On reaching the ISP network, traffic is then routed on to the Internet backbone or to other locations within the ISP network. To the customer they have a single virtual link with public IP addressing which can be connected in-turn to their corporate firewall.
The table below shows an example of the achievable Internet speeds with an ISP Bonding solution.
| ISP Bonding Solution | x2 | x8 | x32 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Max. Download speed | 16Mbps | 32Mbps | 256Mbps |
| Max. Upload speed | 512Kbs | 2Mbs | 8Mbs |
(Figures based on a standard 8Mbps ISP connection)
