What’s the problem?

Internet and Wide Area Network Bandwidth is expensive. Low cost connections are generally lower quality whereas premium connections typically offer lower bandwidth in return for better SLA’s. Applications that run over the Internet or Corporate WAN are relatively inefficient when it comes to bandwidth use and do not perform well when the network is under load. For example, if your company uses a Voice over IP telephone system and all the available Internet bandwidth is used, calls we appear lossy and experience drops outs.

How do we fix it?

Data Deduplication

When data packets are sent, we store them in a cache both locally and at the remote side, and when we see the same data again, we simple tell the remote side that we already sent that piece of data and to simply replay the data. Consequently you aren’t using up valuable bandwidth.

Application Acceleration

Many protocols that today travel over the WAN weren’t designed to do so and therefore are slow or use up unnecessary bandwidth. As these applications flow through your Xrio appliance we ‘optimise’ them taking out all the un-needed parts meaning your application functions just as if it was running over your local network.

Compression

Similar to how you compress your files on your computer to make them smaller, the same principal applies to the information you send. Your application can compress data as you send it meaning you get a faster transfer and reduce bandwidth utilisation.
